2022 NHL Review

2022 NHL Review

The 2021-22 NHL season reverted back to the the normal 82-game schedule and normal division alignments, with the Arizona Coyotes moving to the Central Division due to the entrance of the Seattle Kraken, who are placed in the Pacific Division. The NHL was scheduled to a take a break during the majority of February 2022 for the Olympics in Beijing, but due to the Omicron variant and China’s quarantine policies, the NHL reversed course and said no to sending players to Beijing. Instead, the cancelled Olympic break will be used for make-up games that were postponed during December 2021 and January 2022.

The current 2022-23 season brought the introduction of digitalized rink board advertisements on telecasts/streams of NHL games on a full-time basis. Preseason and regular season European NHL games resumed after a 2-season break due to COVID. The Arizona Coyotes will temporarily relocate to Mullett Arena, run by Arizona State University’s hockey team.
